Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement. Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid. The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated. Officers then located many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity. Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols. Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood. "At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added. Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for details. A high-ranking representative commented the incident rendered him stunned and required to be resolved quickly. "This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
