🔗 Share this article MTG's Top-Tier Draft Format At Last Arrives on MTG Arena The Vintage Cube stands as one of the highly popular cubes on the original digital platform, the premier digital service for playing Magic: The Gathering before Arena was launched. Now, MTGA players will get the opportunity to experience true power when the Arena Powered Cube debuts on Oct. 28. According to the announcement, "This exciting event is distinct from all others on Arena and will feature some of the most powerful cards from throughout Magic's history, including the Power Nine." What Is the Vintage Cube? As experienced Limited players know, a cube is a distinctive form of Booster Draft that does not pull cards from particular expansions, but rather from a predetermined pool. The Classic Cube has long been a fun and popular way for Magic fans to enjoy the excitement of using some of the strongest cards in the history of the game without needing to spend the substantial cost required for tabletop Vintage. Arena introduced something similar with its Timeless format, but it did not include cards such as the Power Nine — Magic's classic powerhouse cards, such as the famed Black Lotus, the Mox gem series, Time Walk card, Timetwister spell, and Ancestral Recall. Details of the Arena Powered Cube The Arena Powered Cube will incorporate a hundred fresh MTG Arena card printings, but some of these will be collectible at the release of the event. This enables the addition of a broader selection of cards, as some of these extremely strong cards could create imbalance issues in Constructed gameplay. Based on the announcement, this also facilitated the launch of the new cube quicker. Fans online are already theorizing that this decision was a reaction to the poor reception of Through the Omenpaths — the Arena adaptation of Marvel's Spider-Man and the lowest-engagement Arena set to date, according to some reports. How It Works and Participation Information Launching a version of one of the most popular cubes ever will surely increase engagement in MTG Arena, but there is an key point to note. The Powered Cube will use a reward system and access cost similar to the Premier Draft tournaments, thus being more expensive to play than earlier cube events. The event structure will be the following: Begins On: Oct. 28, 8 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC) Signup Close: November 18, 8 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC) Participation Cost: 10k gold, or 1,500 gems, or 1 Player Draft token Game Style: Phantom Player Draft (Participants won't retain the event cards) Best-of-One: Seven wins or three losses; with ranking Match Play Mode: Three matches; unranked Prizes and Extra Details The reward packs awarded during the event can contain almost every card legal in the Timeless mode, plus cards from a unique bonus card list.
